History of Santa Claus
Santa, short for Santa Claus, is also
known as Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, St. Nick, and Father
Christmas. He is a fictional character said to bring gifts
at Christmas time. His character is based on a rich historical
figure that used all his money to give to the poor and
needy. His history can be found beginning in Europe (Turkey,
Netherlands, France, and Germany). Sinterklass, of the
Netherlands and Belgium, is the subject of a great celebration
in those countries. In the United States, Santa Claus
comes on Christmas Eve bringing toys for all the good
little children. He is a jolly, cheerful, and stout man.
His traditional outfit is a red and white jacket and pants
suit with fluffy collar and a large black belt around
his middle.
